Junior Data Engineer

Location: Boston, MA



The Brattle Group is seeking a Junior Data Engineer to work alongside the lead Data Engineer and consulting teams. In the course of our work, we regularly receive large amounts of data and/or documents in a wide variety of formats.  The Junior Data Engineer’s focus will be to assist project teams, handle document productions, and convert them into useable, working forms and formats. In this role, the Junior Data Engineer will interface with internal and external clientele to determine how to best process materials into a form to support analysis while implementing agreed upon systems and processes.


The core duties of this position include:

  • Working with Brattle consultants, Brattle IT, clients, and clients’ IT to negotiate the transfer of clients’ data and documents to Brattle;
  • Writing scripts to process client data into a useable form, such as a SQL database;
  • Working as part of a team of developers to improve Brattle’s internal applications.



In addition to the qualifications listed below, the successful Junior Data Engineer will have the ability to work collaboratively with the lead Data Engineer and employ a consultative approach to developing solutions. The individual must be able to solve problems creatively and with occasional oversight, as needed.


The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field;
  • 1-2+ years of professional experience, preferably with Python. Demonstrated experience communicating and strong organizational skills;
  • Programming skills include:
    • Proficiency in Python
    • Experience in R a plus
    • Familiarity in SQL
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to handle numerous projects and deliverables concurrently;
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and to work as part of a team as needed;
  • Comfortable interacting with senior-level personnel;
  • Excellent customer service skills and positive attitude;
  • Evening and/or weekend work may be required.
