Summer Associate - Sustainability

Location: Multiple Offices


Summer Associate Role

The goal of the Summer Associate role is to provide MBA students the opportunity to apply finance and economic theory and practice to litigation and corporate planning and service desig issues. Summer Associates typically work on one to two projects that cover a subset of issues within a project team; communicate directly with project managers; conduct valuable research and have the opportunity to interact with the company’s Principals. This internship opportunity is especially beneficial to those who would like to gain exposure to a professional services environment where one can apply knowledge and skills to solving real world issues for clients.

The Summer Associate in sustainability will work in a growth-oriented team environment to help our clients as we contribute to understanding and answering the most important problems facing the electricity sector of the future, including: deep decarbonization and large scale renewables integration, electricity market design, wholesale market pricing dynamics, large scale electrification of transportation and other sectors, fundamental changes to utilities’ and others’ business models, reforms to resource planning, advances in technology, and maximizing the potential of big data to improve efficiency, fairness, and sustainability of the emerging and necessary changes to the industry.  Assignments involve a combination of hard-hitting quantitative analysis and policy/industry thought leadership. 

The Brattle Group seeks highly motivated and energetic applicants who possess an interest in economic consulting with a strong research and quantitative background.  Other valuable skills include strong writing abilities, presentation and communication skills, and some familiarity with computer programming.  Summer Associates are generally not expected to travel.


Ideal Summer Associate Candidates

  • Are working towards a MBA with a strong foundation in quantitative analysis – a further plus if this has been applied or developed in the context of energy and environmental policy, financial evaluations, market forecasting or competition analysis
  • Previous work experience (preferably in a professional services environment or in a quantitative field)
  • Demonstrated record of outstanding academic and/or practical accomplishment
  • Possess intellectual curiosity, strong analytic and quantitative skills, along with practical problem solving abilities
  • An entrepreneurial drive
  • Have a desire to work in a collaborative team environment
