Summary:  This position works in collaboration with the Youth Coordinator-Lead to conduct an assessment of the services available to, and the needs of at risk youth in the city of Chicago, and to facilitate substance use prevention curricula at schools within the Chicago Community Areas of West Ridge, Rogers Park, and Edgewater.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • With the Lead Worker and Supervisor, participates in conducting community/target population assessments, providing in-school Youth Substance Use Prevention programming, and recruiting Chicago area schools to participate in the Illinois Youth Survey

  • Facilitates state-approved substance use prevention curricula in Chicago Community Area Schools for Edgewater, Rogers Park, and West Ridge

  • Coordinates supportive referral service for program participants

  • Works with other Substance Use Prevention staff to link eligible youth to the appropriate substance use prevention curricula/programming

  • Provides one-on-one substance use prevention interactions with participants, as needed

  • Maintains confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries in accord with program and organizational policies and guidelines

  • Completes accurately, and in a timely manner, all necessary forms and statistical reports and submits such documentation to supervisor within designated timelines

  • Participates and contributes actively in regular supervisory and team/unit meetings, assessment process debriefings, in-house training sessions, conferences, and other activities as needed

  • Participates in program and operational planning

  • In addition to performing the above mentioned job duties, the lead worker will also be required to perform various coordinating and training duties. These include, but are not limited to such things as preparing and monitoring staffing assignments, training employees how to perform certain job duties and suggesting how employees can improve their job performance.

  • Education and/or Experience:  Bachelor’s degree. At least three years of related experience working with at risk youth, substance use prevention intervention and education, or both.

  • < > Individuals in this position must complete training of the chosen substance use prevention curriculum within the first three months of employment.

    Computer skills:Basic knowledge of word processing, email, and Intranet.
