It’s an exciting time for our business. After more than two decades of growth and innovation, in 2019 we plan to create two focused, independent companies: Ironwood and “R&D Co.” This new way of doing business will enhance our agility and innovation, and empower our employees to make a bigger impact on our patients and on our industry than ever before.  “R&D Co.” will harness our pioneering work in cGMP pharmacology to advance an innovative sGC pipeline focusing on serious and orphan diseases. Following completion of the separation, the Senior Manager, New Product Planning will be a key contributor at “R&D Co.”

As our new Senior Manager, New Product Planning, you will bring to “R&D Co.” the skills, experience and passion to lead and develop the successful market entry strategies for discovery- and development-stage programs in three key ways: (1) assess the value proposition and market potential for our breakthrough treatments targeting serious and orphan diseases, (2) inform clinical development plans based on strategic insights and build go-to-market strategy and (3) establish and maintain deep relationships with key opinion leaders, patient advocacy groups and patients. You will be working as a key member on cross-functional teams to align clinical development plans with our global market entry strategy to maximize the overall value of each assigned pipeline asset.  

You must be a proven strategic and analytic thinker who can effectively work in a cross-functional team to efficiently prioritize key programs and move them forward.  This position will report to the Director, New Product Planning.



  • Work closely with key members of the R&D organization to align the target product profile and go-to-market strategy to the clinical development plans

  • Lead and guide discussions on compound strategies, identify and drive alignment on meaningful points of differentiation that will optimize overall asset value

  • Direct primary and secondary market research with patients, physicians and payers to inform value proposition and understand patient epidemiology, unmet needs, and competitive positioning; communicate results of market research to program teams and management

  • Lead financial / revenue modeling and other commercial analytics to help develop market entry strategies and drive decisions

  • Deliver commercial assessments and build P&L components (e.g., revenue, field force, brand resources, price and discounts)

  • Establish go/no go criteria for each stage of development and to provide key input to portfolio decisions

  • Accountable for directing competitive intelligence for key external programs and changes in market dynamics and adapting program strategy accordingly to ensure the success of our programs

  • Work closely with key members of the broader organization including patient advocacy, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), program leadership, finance, clinical and pharmacology



  • Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline with a minimum of 4 years direct experience in some combination of biopharmaceutical or healthcare commercial strategy, marketing, or consulting
  • Previous experience in orphan diseases required with an emphasis on therapeutic areas such as neurology, pulmonology, hematology and/or hepatology a plus
  • Proven ability to work well in cross-functional teams, with strong collaborative skills, and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and influence at all levels without authority
  • Demonstrate exceptional analytical skills, strategic thinking, creativity and problem-solving capabilities including experience generating global strategic insights and using them to drive decisions and market forecasts
  • Passion for creating and building the market for breakthrough treatments and interest in working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial culture
