At Johnson Matthey we have an opportunity for a Production Manager within our Efficient Natural Resources Sector at our site in Enfield. Reporting to the Site Production Manager, the Production Manager  is responsible for overseeing the day to day running of one of three areas (Smelting, Evaluation or Chemicals department). The role is responsible for the delivery of metrics in terms of production targets and cost along with ensuring that EHS, Quality and Security standards are adhered to. You will also work with the Site Production Manager  to ensure delivery of a “Stop” for Safety culture and Continuous improvement.


Key responsibilities

  • Provide EHS leadership in order to improve processes, equipment and staff awareness and training to ensure EHS improvement and delivery against KPI’s and Regulatory / corporate needs. Accountable for current EHS performance of whole department.

  • Accountable for ensuring all corrective actions identified in incident reports related to their area are appropriate and completed on time and in full.

  • Alongside Supply Chain ensure efficient scheduling and reviewing of workload to ensure production output and delivery targets are achieved cost effectively and with minimum inventory

  • Devise suitable KPI’s and reports to ensure that performance is tracked and improved

  • Develop a LEAN implementation into the department.

  • Working with HR and the Site Production Manager  – Enfield to ensure that the department and its production operators have the necessary resource, competence and knowledge in order to achieve production targets.


Are you the ideal candidate? You will have:

  • Degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent science or engineering based subject or demonstrate equivalent experience/knowledge

  • An ability to provide innovative solutions to problems

  • Ability to lead a large group of people and work together with multi-disciplinary teams

  • Experience of structured problem-solving techniques such as Six Sigma and Lean

  • High level of numeracy, working with systems and data, SPC control, statistical understanding would be advantageous

  • Good understanding of general EHS management principles

  • Experience of implementing talent and workforce planning strategies, organisation design
