Vacancy: Enterprise Data Architect

Location: Royston/Teesdale

Johnson Matthey IT (JM IT) is Johnson Matthey’s global IT function responsible for ensuring that our IT capabilities are not only able to support and integrate technologies but can also offer insight into future IT tools that could provide us with a competitive edge and improved operating efficiencies. 

We are actively seeking an Enterprise Data Architect to be based in our Royston or Teesdale office on a permanent basis.

The role of Enterprise Data Architect is to undertake architectural leadership to drive the successful delivery of a global or project specific architecture within and across Johnson Matthey.  Once the analysis has been completed, to then review any ‘gaps’ to present capabilities and architecturally design solutions to close these gaps, costing each solution. Provide technical implementation assurance as necessary. Provide leadership and direction in alignment within the JM IT Architecture team in relation to platform deliveries. 

Key responsibilities

·Determine overall modelling standards, guidelines, best practices and approved modelling techniques and approaches.

·Supervise the creation of all physical and logical data models in JM.

·Supervise the data modelling staff.

·Participate in due diligence of new software purchases by reviewing all proposed data models contained in packaged or commercially available applications.

·Participate in all data integration and enterprise information management (EIM) programs and projects in order to rationalise data processing.

·Work jointly with the business data administrators in developing the data objects and data models to support data services across all of JM.

·Establish and manage the metadata management approach for JM.

·Support the maturity and adoption of the EIM program across JM.

·Own and create Conceptual Design statement documents to support the Group IT Design Authority Governance process based around material change programmes of work and Design Artefacts.

·Analysis, creation and updating of Capability Models (Business and IT) for the area of architecture concern.

·Creation and updating of “As-Is” Architecture Documents

·Creation and updating of Reference Architectures and the championship of RA through approval governance.

·Creation and updating of “To-Be” Reference Architecture and the championship of RA through approval governance

·Creation, review and updating of Standards and Policies, via GAP analysis of Ref Architectures

·Representation of Group IT Architecture in governance meetings such as IT Design Authority, Architecture Review Boards, architecture workshops & team meetings.

·Be a champion for Group IT Architecture within JMIT and JM Business sectors

·Review and contribute to HLD / Architecture Spec Docs for specific projects

·Engage with senior leadership within JMIT and JM Business to facilitate and lead Architecture discussions and decisions

·Oversee Enterprise Architects and provide leadership and direction

·Implementation of EA standards and championship of Standards across JM

Are you the ideal candidate?

You will have:

  • IT Security knowledge and experience

  • Technical knowledge in a range of Infrastructure, Applications, System integration and a desire to extend their technical capabilities

  • Ability to build consensus on proposed technical solutions across a wide range of technologies.

  • Ability to speak with senior business leaders and gain respect in their terms

  • Create an environment of trust and respect for EA within JMIT and within JM Business

  • Proven strong leadership skills

  • Excellent written, verbal and communication skills

  • Holistic knowledge of enterprise architecture

  • Familiar with a wide range of EA techniques, methodologies and frameworks (not restricted to TOGAF & ArchiMate).

  • Knowledge and understanding of different types of business and operating models (existing, new, emerging and hybrid)

  • Knowledge of existing, new and emerging technologies and being able to practically apply them to new business designs and business models

  • In-depth experience with business transformation and process redesign methods

  • Knowledge in all aspects of designing and constructing business processes, functions and organisational structures

  • Comprehensive knowledge of facilitation and organisation change management
