Description

This position is responsible for development and implementation of platinum group metal refining process in the Johnson Matthey West Deptford Refinery.  The incumbent designs, installs, operates and troubleshoots process systems. This can include hands on work as well.

The engineer designs reactors and agitation systems, pumps, filters, piping, drives, material of construction.  The engineer prepares drawings and sketches of process systems and documents all aspects of the system. The engineer also designs control systems and suitable instrumentation required for the process.

The engineer prepares capex’s for capital spending and projects. The engineer prepares timelines for projects and then works to the timelines that have been published.  Project management requires adherence to project cost authorization and time estimated for installation.  The engineer follows/conducts the 6 stage PHA process for all projects.  The engineer completes projects by commissioning the equipment, and once commissioning is completed, he trains the operators on how to run the process safely.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare engineering calculations for refining processes including but not limited to design basis, mass balances, energy and heat transfer requirements, volumetric flows, residence times, etc.

  • Perform labwork as needed for development of refining processes including assembling small pilot systems to be operated in the lab.

  • Prepare process documentation such as PFD’s, P&ID’s, process description, functional spec, reactor design drawings, electrical drawings, floor layouts.

  • Specify instrumentation, design ladder logic and MMI’s, electrical components, wiring, addressing for instrument landing

  • Direct the installationof all processes including the work of all installation contractors

  • Provide technical support to refining production.

  • Troubleshoot refining processes and design solutions to problems.

 

Are you the ideal candidate?

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering required

  • Precious metal industry experience highly preferred

  • Must be able to understand basic chemistry principles

  • Good computer skills including word processing, power point, and spreadsheets also required

  • Must have good communication skills, including written, verbal and the ability to successfully conduct technical presentations
