Are you looking to start and develop your career in Engineering?  We now have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technician Apprentice available!

Working within our experienced and talented Maintenance Team and reporting to the Lead Engineer, you will support the team to safely maintain all site equipment, develop improvement and preventive measures in accordance to engineering standards.

At Johnson Matthey we understand the importance of finding and developing people at the beginning of their careers.  A significant component of this role is the completion of a Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship which will be funded for you.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting the Maintenance team in the skilled execution of Planned, Reactive & Corrective Instrumentation maintenance activities under supervision and mentoring guidance

  • Taking responsibility for your own safety, complying with JMs safe working practices and following PPE direction and contributing to a healthy and safe working environment

  • Cooperating and collaborating with other team members to continually drive our proactive engineering programme, participate in failure investigations, identify and report back reliability issues within the plant

  • Carrying out report writing with use of data to help JM to understand machine issues

  • Completing a programme of training which involves apprentice assignments and taking ownership of your own training and development plans to ensure continued development of your own skills and expertise, undertaking additional training skills to keep abreast of technology changes, and the changing needs of the business

  • Carrying out tasks and duties as directed by the Engineering Team Leader that will contribute to the levels of performance and competence required

  • Issuing of permits and control of contractors

  • Adherence to Life Saving Policies and Management of Change procedures

Are you the ideal candidate?

You will have:

  • Grade C or above in GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)

  • Preferably grade C or above in GCSE Science

  • No prerequisite experience required but a demonstrable interest in instrumentation

  • Demonstrate excellent numerical/maths skills and use of Microsoft Office

  • Team player able to support other disciplines if required

  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills

  • High personal Health & Safety standards

Due to the nature of this role applicants must be non-smokers, have been free from nicotine products for at least 3 months, and be 18 years or older as of 1st September 2019. Anticipated start date of the training is September 2019.
