Johnson Matthey IT (JM IT) is Johnson Matthey’s global IT function responsible for ensuring that our IT capabilities are not only able to support and integrate technologies but can also offer insight into future IT tools that could provide us with a competitive edge and improved operating efficiencies. 

We are actively seeking an Enterprise Business Architect to be based in our Royston office on a contract basis.

The role of Enterprise Architect is to undertake architectural leadership to drive the successful delivery of a global or project specific architecture within and across Johnson Matthey.  Once the analysis has been completed, to then review any ‘gaps’ to present capabilities and architecturally design solutions to close these gaps, costing each solution. Provide technical implementation assurance as necessary. Provide leadership and direction in alignment within the JM IT Architecture team in relation to platform deliveries. 

Key responsibilities

  • Own and create Conceptual Design statement documents to support the Group IT Design Authority Governance process based around material change programmes of work and Design Artefacts.

  • Analysis, creation and updating of Capability Models (Business and IT) for the area of architecture concern.

  • Creation and updating of “As-Is” Architecture Documents

  • Creation and updating of Reference Architectures and the championship of RA through approval governance.

  • Creation and updating of “To-Be” Reference Architecture and the championship of RA through approval governance

  • Creation, review and updating of Standards and Policies, via GAP analysis of Ref Architectures

  • Representation of Group IT Architecture in governance meetings such as IT Design Authority, Architecture Review Boards, architecture workshops & team meetings.

  • Be a champion for Group IT Architecture within JMIT and JM Business sectors

  • Review and contribute to HLD / Architecture Spec Docs for specific projects

  • Engage with senior leadership within JMIT and JM Business to facilitate and lead Architecture discussions and decisions

  • Implementation of EA standards and championship of Standards across JM

  • Highlight how digital business initiatives will potentially impact the enterprise's critical financial metrics and economic architectures.

  • Support business and technology innovation that drives JM's top and bottom lines.

  • Detail potential competitive threats from digital enterprises that are generally considered outside of your traditional realm of competition.

  • Engage key business stakeholders to facilitate both strategy and innovation planning.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders involved in digital strategy and digital innovation to develop an IT investment roadmap.

  • Review JM’s digital strategy and how JM currently approaches digital innovation.

  • Create deliverables that illustrate how to strategically move the business forward.

  • Work with enterprise architects and key organizational stakeholders to define a strategic plan for leveraging integrated business architecture as part of the enterprise architecture.

  • Participate in enterprise strategy development, including environmental analysis, opportunity identification, value cases and business innovation portfolio development.

  • Define a clear plan and governance for ensuring the business architecture work is in lock step with the other EA viewpoints.

  • Provide strategic consultation to assigned line-of-business (LOB) customers in defining or designing business capabilities, processes, functions and organizational structures, as well as in researching, identifying and internally marketing, selling and enabling technologies based on business and end-user requirements.

  • Be comfortable using business architecture tools and techniques, including strategy on a page, strategic planning, business model canvas, disruptions and trends, balance scorecard, economical modelling, risks and interdependencies, process models, business capability modelling, ecosystems modelling, customer and user profiling, journey maps, and human-centric design.

Are you the ideal candidate?

You will have:

  • IT Security knowledge and experience

  • Technical knowledge in a range of Infrastructure, Applications, System integration and a desire to extend their technical capabilities

  • Ability to build consensus on proposed technical solutions across a wide range of technologies.

  • Ability to speak with senior business leaders and gain respect in their terms

  • Create an environment of trust and respect for EA within JMIT and within JM Business

  • Familiar with a wide range of EA techniques, methodologies and frameworks (including but not restricted to TOGAF & ArchiMate).

  • Knowledge and understanding of different types of business and operating models (existing, new, emerging and hybrid)

  • Knowledge of existing, new and emerging technologies and being able to practically them to new business designs and business models

  • In-depth experience with business transformation and process redesign methods

  • Knowledge in all aspects of designing and constructing business processes, functions and organisational structures

  • Comprehensive knowledge of facilitation and organisation change management
