At Johnson Matthey we understand the importance of finding and developing talented people at the beginning of their careers.  A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our Logistics Department based in Royston.  As a Supply Chain Apprentice, you will be supporting our Logistics Team within a fast-paced environment.  The team supports the production departments, through the on-time receipt and delivery of materials, ensuring processing is not delayed and this role involves the receipt and movement of all materials onto and off site.

In order to be successful you will need to be enthusiastic and well-disciplined.  In addition, you need to exhibit initiative, be reliable and conscientious.  Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to think logically and to work both independently and as part of a team.  In return you have the opportunity to gain a fully funded Level 2 Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Apprenticeship. 

Key responsibilities

  • Adherence to all EHS & Security policies and procedures, including developing the knowledge required for the safe handling and storage, packing and shipping of environmentally hazardous materials.

  • Offloading and weighing in of all materials using Weigh Scale Automation Process (WSAP) and movement of materials from storage into production, production into storage.

  • Full compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures

  • Participating in regular audits and stock checks, including weekly cycle counting, quarterly and annual stock takes for the business

  • Packing & Dispatch of materials and products to customers

  • Receipt, storage and issue of production consumables from Stores

  • To carry out any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed

Are you the ideal candidate?

You will have:

  • Full driving license

  • Good level of literacy and numeracy (GCSE Grades A-C in Maths & English or equivalent)

  • Knowledge of Manual handling techniques

  • Basic knowledge of warehouse processes

  • Basic understanding of Lean Principles in manufacturing, including 5S and Standard Work

  • Ability to work on own initiative working towards deadlines and within a team

  • Good communication skills with the ability to clearly explain issues to colleagues & clients

  • Good computer/IT skills

Due to the nature of this role applicants must be non-smokers, have been free from nicotine products for at least 3 months, and be 18 years or older as of 1st September 2019.  Anticipated start date of the role is August/September 2019.
