We are currently recruiting for a Senior Chemical Engineer to join our team.

The purpose of the role:

  • Global role responsible for provision of support in key manufacturing areas to plants and technology groups, including scale-up and start-up of new processes and manufacturing technologies.

  • Lead key Sector Manufacturing Technology projects to define equipment-based best practise for operating units, process sensors and process controls in key manufacturing areas.

  • Responsible for delivering projects to transfer new manufacturing technology from concept to full scale, include designing, specifying, installing and commissioning of process equipment and units from bench to pilot and manufacturing scale.

Key responsibilities

Technical/Engineering skills

  • Support development and implementation of capital projects - new equipment and/or modification of existing equipment with plant engineering functions, including defining process engineering scope, creating specification, operating/start-up/shutdown procedures, and factory/site acceptance tests procedure.

  • Define and conduct development programme to assist projects using in-depth knowledge and proactive application of scientific/engineering principles, theory and experimental design with working knowledge in multiple disciplines.

  • Develop and implement technical solutions through hand-on experimentation and/or with application of theoretical/computational/data processing techniques.

  • Apply technical knowledge, skills and leadership to deliver high quality results that are aligned with the project deliverables and create value for Clean Air.

  • Provide trouble-shooting and problem resolution support for plants in coordination with the regions. Collect and interpret plant process data and make recommendations for improvements when process sensors are available. Design and lead plant experiments to understand problems and identify improvement opportunities including pre-reviews, trial document development, data interpretation and conclusions/recommendations. Support plant to implement improvements based on Management of Change procedures.

  • Generate conceptual design, prepare equipment specification, develop capital justification, install and commission new manufacturing technology units for Sector Manufacturing Technology projects.

    Health and Safety

  • Ensure work carried out by you and your direct reports are in full compliance with all local Environment, Health and safety policies and hazard procedures.

  • Ensure processes developed, process changes made and equipment designed are compliant to JM policies and procedures, and are assessed using risk and hazard assessment techniques.

  • Participate in process risk and hazard assessments.

    Project Management

  • Ensure that project plans meet business requirements and timings, adapting and responding to changed requirements appropriately.

  • Manage timings and be accountable for multiple projects being completed by self and any direct reports.

  • Prioritise workload and projects with input from management and subsequently prioritise tasks and timings required within team based on knowledge and experience.

    Reporting and Communication

  • Provide regular updates of projects in writing or presentation and ensure project plans for on-going work are communicated to all relevant parties regularly and appropriately.

  • Provide technical reports and presentations of results, and maintaining appropriate records of results obtained.

  • Maintain good communication and develop strong working relationships with Regional Process, Engineering, Product Development and Production groups.

  • Establish and maintain good contact with suppliers and be capable of assessing opportunities for their use within the business.

Are you the ideal candidate? 

  • Science qualification, equivalent to A level standard or have an extensive experience in a relevant field

  • Organisational skills, capable of planning and executing engagements to plan

  • Proactive, able to independently manage workload to progress objectives of the group

  • Experience in manufacturing environment

  • Able to facilitate a cross functional working group to achieve success in face to face and remote meetings

  • Able to communicate across all levels of the business

  • Willing to travel internationally

  • Desirable: Six sigma Green/ Black belt, PRINCE2, educated to a University Degree standard in Mechanical, Automotive or Chemical Engineering
