Why We Need You

Report, interpret, and translate department-level data to provide insights that drive effective business decisions.  Ensure the necessary department data is available for use, either through the corporate data warehouse or by direct extraction from the source. 


What You’ll be Doing

• Participate in discussions with department leadership and business subject matter experts to discover and document analytics needs
• Retrieve, prepare, model and analyze department data including using Tableau and a variety of technology tools, systems and analytics approaches; demonstrate curiosity around data findings, anomalies and opportunities beyond what is requested   
• Design, develop, and maintain department metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards. Report results of analyses to department leadership; provide insights and/or recommendations to improve operational and financial effectiveness and workforce efficiency and present in a clear and concise manner to senior leaders
• Monitor the department’s data and meta data with an understanding of data sources, validation techniques, metrics and standard definitions, and the interaction of data with other departments, corporate finances and budgeting
• Work directly with the corporate Information Management team to ensure that the right data warehouse data resources are available to meet the department’s analytics needs
• Provide data collection and analysis support to cross-functional teams in the execution of projects and initiatives
• Demonstrate proficiency with department-level software systems; provide end user training and support including educating on self-service data exploration capabilities


What You’ll Bring

• Minimum three (3+) years’ experience in Business Intelligence including:

  • Excellent SQL skills, primarily on the MS SQL Server platform
  • Excellent data analysis / profiling skills
  • Ability to participate in conversations with both business SMEs and technical teams

• Demonstrated ability to organize data visually and present in a clear and concise manner
• Detail orientation and desire for accuracy and thoroughness, while also having the judgement to know what is good enough for a given business purpose
• Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in group or individual situations, while maintaining the ability to actively listen and adjust communication approaches as appropriate; also, write clearly and informatively
• Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Minimum two (2+) years’ experience using Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server preferred:

  • Developing Tableau dashboards using data visualization best practices, and advanced Tableau functions such as table calculations, LOD calculations, mapping etc.
  • Publishing, organizing, and managing departmental Tableau workbooks and access rights on Tableau Server
  • Providing end-user training and support
  • Tableau Certified Professional preferred

• B.A. or B.S. degree in computer science, mathematics or related field preferred
• Experience with other BI / Reporting tools such as Power BI, Business Objects, Cognos, etc. preferred
• Statistics / predictive analytics knowledge preferred
•  Work experience in the Property and Casualty Insurance industry preferred
