In support of IDA’s strategic communications efforts, the Corporate Writer/Editor researches, writes, edits, and produces original multi-media feature articles, reports and publications – employing journalistic/web writing style and incorporating photography, graphics and video where relevant. S/he creates written material that is clear, concise and grammatical, adheres to the principles of good composition and is presented in a manner appropriate to intended audiences.
Creates engaging, well-organized technical and non-technical text for use across all communication mediums including online, print, and multimedia.
Collaborate with creative design team on development of intranet and digital communications, and support corporate branding efforts
Collaborates directly with the Vice President of Programs to create tailored deliverables for senior sponsors and Department of Defense officials.
Analyzes requirements, assembles technical data, develops source material and consults with technical staff and others involved in the preparation of draft material.
Facilitates dialogue between staff to better understand written communication requirements and collaborates with graphic artists, photographers and others in content production.
Analyzes existing materials in terms of purpose, format, effectiveness and necessity in partnership with other IDA staff. Assists in defining target audiences and determining most appropriate methods of presentation.
Assists in developing IDA corporate identity and branding standards and serves as a subject matter expert.
Serves as liaison with other IDA writers, editors and media producers to assist in ensuring that communications materials, publications and reports conform to relevant sponsor requirements and complement established communications strategy.
Leads, coordinates and edits the production of the four-color periodic corporate publication highlighting research products.
Maintains extensive, accuracy-validated lists for postal and electronic distribution of corporate communications materials.
BA/BS Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field; graduate degree preferred coupled at least 7 years of relevant work experience; experience or familiarity within scientific and/or research environments a plus.
Demonstrated strong writing and editorial skills, preferably within relevant national security and/or government environments; experience conducting research on complex topics and composing technical documents.
Creative thinker with honed skills in researching, writing and editing in all media
Demonstrated expertise using various CMS platforms; Sitecore proficiency preferred,
Demonstrated proficiency using of MS Office tools.
Detail oriented, able to multi-task and work effectively as part of a team under tight deadlines.
Ability to interact with all levels of personnel; preferred on experience with interacting with senior executives.
