About the Position:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President and collaborating closely with the Associate Vice President for Development, the Director of Development Strategy and Operations has an exciting opportunity to help build the fundraising capacity and success of a leading national non-profit organization. In addition to growing and sustaining JFF’s successful record of securing institutional funds for programmatic support, the Director will play a critical role in helping JFF build a successful program to provide critical unrestricted and organizational capacity investments that will help JFF realize an ambitious vision for impact. The person in this position will collaborate with staff throughout the organization, including program and fiscal staff, and senior leadership. The person will help the team develop and improve systems and processes that elevate JFF’s development capacity and performance.
What you’ll do:
Primary direct responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Proposal Development. In coordination with the AVP and Development team staff, collaborate with program directors to lead development of grant and contract proposals to both public and private funders, including senior-level project management, thought-partnership, partner outreach and collaboration, content writing, critical review, and editorial support, and coordination of JFF internal review and approval process for funder submission
Prospect Strategy and Management. Working closely with the SVP, planning and driving execution of prospect strategy for JFF’s highest priority individual and institutional funders and prospective funders in support of the CEO, SVP, and other executive leaders. This includes everything from contributing to briefings and meeting preparation to tracking follow ups and next steps, ensuring that the CEO, SVP, and executive leaders stay on course
Relationship Management Practices. Lead efforts to incentivize and support best practices in funder relationship management across JFF, including using Salesforce for accurate and timely tracking of funder interactions and building a practice of account management and more central coordination of key relationships
Reporting and Analytical Support. Develop and manage analytical support and reporting for strategy development, board presentations, and related needs
Team Management. Directly supervise a small team of two full-time employees. Primary managerial responsibilities include oversight of other Development Team functions and the staff responsible for executing them. The Director will provide direction and guidance for staff providing operational support for major gifts, including prospect research, stewardship, event planning, and pipeline development, as well as for proposal coordination, data management, funder reporting, and award review and processing
Who you are:
At least 8 years of relevant professional experience, ideally in a nonprofit environment and in development, including:
Demonstrated success in managing the execution of complex processes at high quality, under deadline pressure and with competing priorities
Experience successfully managing the performance and developing the talent of staff, and fostering a strong culture of accountability and ownership for results
Experience with proposal writing and/or development operations or prospect management
Belief in JFF's core values and ability to apply those values to all areas of your work
Exceptional organizational skills; ablility to work quickly and independently, prioritize, and meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Outstanding attention to detail, commitment to accuracy, initiative, and desire to get the job done right; execution focus with excellent problem-solving skills, systems orientation, and analytical mindset
Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills; able to maintain open and effective communication with staff at all levels across the organization, and experience supporting senior leadership
Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to quickly synthesize information and present it for executive consumption
Responsiveness and customer-service orientation
Strong professional ethics; able to maintain high level of confidentiality
Ability to thrive in a high growth environment; comfort with change and ambiguity
Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM database tools; comfort with technology and ability to learn new systems quickly
