Johnson Matthey are actively seeking a Senior Software Engineer (SharePoint) to be based in our Royston, Hertfordshire office on a permanent basis. You would be part of Johnson Matthey IT (JMIT), which is Johnson Matthey’s global IT function responsible for ensuring that our IT capabilities are not only able to support and integrate technologies, but can also offer insight into future IT tools that could provide us with a competitive edge and improved operating efficiencies.

The Senior Software Engineer will be working within the application development team, and they will provide on-going configuration and development support for global SharePoint environments and solutions; in line with agreed service levels. All work is thoroughly tested through unit tests, integration tests and acceptance tests so that IT has confidence it has met the criteria given and is robust enough that we can modify/extend it without breaking existing functionality. Some of the key responsibilities are:

Key responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for estimating, planning, and managing their tasks and reporting on progress. 

  • Collaborating closely with all the other members of the team to take shared responsibility for the overall efforts that the team has committed to.   

  • Interacting with users as necessary to clarify requirements.   

  • Maintain, enhance and develop solutions according to user stories captured in JIRA or other requirements documents. 

  • Contributes to the review and creation of technical design to facilitate the delivery of change requests. 

  • Ensure that all changes delivered are tested appropriately in line with JM standards. 

  • Develop applications/services to design specifications in line with Architecture Technical standards. 

  • Ensure that documentation is maintained and kept up to date in line with JM standards and policies. 

  • Share acquired knowledge with colleagues through formal documentation and communications sessions. 

  • Provide L2/L3 support as required for collaboration applications 

Special factors 

  • Group JMIT consists of geographically dispersed teams, so this role will involve working with remote and cross-cultural teams. 

  • National/International travel, is not anticipated very frequently, but may be required in order to fulfil the requirements of the role 

  • This role will be required to participate in the Major Incident Management process which may mean out of hours participation in incident resolution and service restoration. 

Essential background and experience needed:

  • Microsoft 365 platform - SharePoint Online, Power Apps, Power Automate, Common Data Service (CDS) 

  • Microsoft Azure - Azure SQL, Azure Logic Apps, Azure Runbook 

  • SharePoint Framework, as well as React, Typescript, Webpack, Gulp and Nintex 

  • A proven track-record of building modern JavaScript-based web applications 

  • Experience with HTML, CSS/LESS/SCSS etc., TypeScript, and responsive design

  • RESTful APIs and experience integrating cloud services

  • Experience working in a structured development environment

  • Knowledge of SDLC processes e.g.; Agile, Waterfall

  • Experience using various development tools such as; MS Visual Studio , MS Visual Studio Code

Desirable background and experience needed:

  • CI/CD pipeline experience with Bitbucket

  • Experience with Power Automate Desktop aka, Softomotive Win Automation

  • Awareness of ITIL principles

  • Experience of using JIRA or similar tools for agile development

  • Knowledge of Power BI report development
