About the Role

The Director, Planning will be responsible for the management and analysis of the global demand plan and all aspects of the Supply and Materials Planning function. As the leader of the global Planning team, you will be responsible for setting priorities, driving process improvements, and establishing goals focused on improving Mattson’s responsiveness to customer demands and overall inventory performance. This role will be an integral part of the Sales & Operations Demand Planning (S&OP) process. You will utilize your analytical capabilities and subject matter knowledge to drive process and ERP system improvements. You will also work proactively with the Sales, Product, Operations and Purchasing teams to understand business requirements, demand pattern changes, materials and operations capabilities and constraints and drive customer supply alignment. Additionally, you will help to identify and implement global supply chain optimization initiatives. Candidates performance will be subject to peer review.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the global demand and supply forecast, incorporating inputs from multiple channels and partners to drive upstream operational and revenue forecasts
  • Participate in the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process, including gaining consensus on the Supply plan, assessment of risks & opportunities, documentation of critical assumptions, and communication of critical measures and assumptions
  • Develop effective reporting / management tools to drive understanding of the demand and supply forecast at all levels
  • Partner closely with Finance team to validate financial impact of the demand and supply plan and gain consensus; additional coordination related to achievement of financial targets, creation of annual budgets, and impact of the plan to inventory.
  • Drive effective action on excess/obsolete inventory, with a focus on avoidance by effective management of the demand forecast, but also on creating and driving action plans for existing inventory exposures
  • Develop, train and mentor the global Planning organization.
  • Partner with IT to further develop ERP systems capabilities.
  • Ensure all Planning processes and procedures are documented and maintained.
  • Any additional responsibilities assigned


  • Minimum of 7 – 10 years of increasing leadership responsibility in supply chain management roles
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience in a Demand/Supply Planning leadership role with experience in Leading and deploying transformational change in use of planning systems and planning systems excellence
  • Bachelor's Degree in Operations, Supply Chain Management, or Business Administration or equivalent required
  •  APICS certification
  • Strong working knowledge of best practices in planning and inventory management systems.
  • Solid background in leading edge manufacturing and materials management processes, including extensive understanding of MRP logic
  • Practical experience using Supply Chain Planning systems – SAP preferred
  • Highly analytical, ability to be flexible, dynamic and proactive
  • Proven ability to synthesize complex information and effectively communicate to senior leaders
  • Adept at effectively challenging current processes or procedures
  • Ability to think strategically, assess risk, and recommend solutions
  • Must possess the ability to influence and drive internal decisions
  • Highly detail-oriented with strength in managing multiple projects
  • Exceptional integrity; operating at the highest level of ethical standards
  • Excellent global communication (spoken, written, interpersonal) and organizational skills
  • Able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
