DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) established Headquarters Allied Commander Transformation (HQ ACT) in Norfolk, VA, in 2003 to lead transformation efforts and improve military capabilities to meet 21st century security and defense requirements.

 

The newly established ACT Innovation Lab (IL) will provide service to the Federated Mission Network (FMN) community by offering the hosted FMN Reference Experimentation Platform together with the test automation tools, thus making these resources available on the Internet, not only to the Affiliates, but also to Industry and Academia partners. 

As of now, most of the verification and validation activities for FMN are conducted on the CFBLNet network to which access is limited, and which lacks a Reference Implementation.

The IL will provide a reference implementation of FMN services in a highly automated testing environment for compliance verification and validation.  This capability will not only be available to FMN Affiliates, but also to Industry, Academia and other organizations, in order to increase FMN’s outreach and enable the contribution of non-traditional partners to FMN capability development.

The scope of this work is to support the development of the FMN Experimental Platform and the JISR Asset Planning Application.

 

PREVIOUS NATO EXPERIENCE IS NOT REQUIRED

 

The basic job responsibilities are to design and develop incrementally JISR Assets Planning Application (JISRAPA) including:

  • Repository of Containerized FMN services including individual services developed in an incremental manner;
  • FMN services automated tests;
  • FMN instances configuration database.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active US Secret clearance
  • University degree in Computer Science or related discpline; or 7 years of experience as a DevSecOps Engineer
  • 2 or more years' experience of Kubernetes, Docker.
  • 2 or more years’ experience in CI/CD tools and processes, particulary in automated testing and security aspects
  • Experience with open source products and open standards for basic network services such as DNS, email, chat, etc.
  • Development experience with shell or script languages such as Python, Bash, etc.
  • Experience deploying and monitoring web applications in AWS
  • Experience with IaaS; implementing scalable cloud-based environments and systems; service-oriented architectures and microservices; deploying resilient, scalable, high-throughput systems
  • Experience with infrastructure as Code and infrastructure testing strategies
  • Experience with fully automating CI/CD pipelines, end-to-end, from code commits to production
  • Experience with systems reliability, load balancing, monitoring, logging
  • Experience developing applications embracing Agile principles
  • A portfolio GitHub and/or Open Source contributions
  • Fluent in English (written and oral)
