The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) established Headquarters Allied Commander Transformation (HQ ACT) in Norfolk, VA, in 2003 to lead transformation efforts and improve military capabilities to meet 21st century security and defense requirements.
The newly established ACT Innovation Lab (IL) will provide service to the Federated Mission Network (FMN) community by offering the hosted FMN Reference Experimentation Platform together with the test automation tools, thus making these resources available on the Internet, not only to the Affiliates, but also to Industry and Academia partners.
As of now, most of the verification and validation activities for FMN are conducted on the CFBLNet network to which access is limited, and which lacks a Reference Implementation.
The IL will provide a reference implementation of FMN services in a highly automated testing environment for compliance verification and validation. This capability will not only be available to FMN Affiliates, but also to Industry, Academia and other organizations, in order to increase FMN’s outreach and enable the contribution of non-traditional partners to FMN capability development.
