Provides a national perspective on state transportation, traffic safety, consumer, automotive and business issues by tracking and analyzing issues for all 50 states.  Communicates national perspective to AAA clubs and National Office employees.  Prepares and distributes materials to support club advocacy efforts at the state and local level.  Manages the development and execution of Association priority issues by working with club work groups, developing legislative and education materials, and working with National Office and club staff to advance Association interests.  Represents AAA with industry and with national state legislative organizations.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitors, tracks and analyzes state legislative and regulatory initiatives of interest to AAA spanning traffic safety, transportation, consumer, automotive, and business interests.
  • Tracks state issues, updates issue briefs, drafts bill summaries for clubs, and writes memoranda and summaries for internal use. 
  • Communicates with club executives and staff on transportation and business issues affecting the states. 
  • Manages and coordinates national statewide legislative, public information, and education campaigns.
  • Develops and executes strategic plans for campaigns, develops materials to support club efforts, prepares testimony for clubs and reviews and analyzes legislation for clubs. 
  • Identifies developing trends and devises strategies to protect the interests of members and clubs.  Analyzes legislative proposals and prepares feedback, suggestions and legislative strategies to assist clubs in lobbying efforts. 
  • Responds to club inquiries and media requests in a timely manner. 
  • Coordinates with the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety on the policy implications of new research.
  • Establishes and maintains contacts with state legislative and industry groups. 
  • Represents Association views at industry meetings. 
  • Performs any and all duties assigned by the supervisor.



  • Knowledge of state government practices/processes
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Excellent public speaking/presentation skills
  • Basic skills in standard PC applications


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and;
  • Seven (7) years’ experience in state government relations with trade association or state government
