Job Description: Senior Permitting Specialist – East Coast

Bloom Energy, a solid oxide fuel cell company, is looking for a Senior Permitting Specialist to join its world class team.  This individual should be a dynamic professional who is looking for a rewarding future in one of today’s most exciting technologies.

Location: This position will be Field Based on the East Coast

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and address the needs of Bloom’s Customer Installations Group as it relates to regulatory requirements and permitting
  • Review preliminary plans in order to assess applicable Federal, State, and local environmental, land use, and code requirements
  • Prepare findings of regulatory due diligence efforts including identifying permit related costs, schedules, and risks
  • Provide expertise and guidance regarding land use and environmental matters
  • Coordinate the efforts of multidisciplinary staff, including staff engaged in the preparation and review of project drawings
  • Obtain pertinent documents and records, prepare permit application submittals, and facilitate permitting
  • Effectively communicate project goals and Bloom’s interests internally and externally
  • Establish project needs and monitor work in progress to ensure final deliverables adhere to requirements
  • Requires management of subcontractors and travel
  • Consult with internal and external specialists, engineers and authorities having jurisdiction to plan projects
  • Other daily job duties might include: directing necessary research; communicating with management regarding project status; and working with necessary staff to meet specified project time frames
  • Coordination of other regional resources to ensure optimized coverage and execution strategy

Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral
  • Ability to prioritize and respond to changing dynamics
  • Strong understanding of permitting and citing practices preferred
  • Ability to take complicated technical concepts and translate to a general audience in a compelling, succinct manner
  • Ability to manage negotiations and other needs with local agencies
  • Ability to think and act strategically
  • Strong self-starter who is a team player and can work independently
  • Strong desire for success and significance
  • Undergraduate degree required, preferably in land use planning, civil engineering or environmental engineering preferred
  • 6-8+ years of work experience, 4+ of permitting specific experience
