The Communications Assistant will provide communication engagement support for approximately 100 to 125 engagement events each year to include development of messages to align NSWCDD initiatives with those of the Secretary of the Navy, the Chief of Naval Operations, the Office of Legislative Affairs, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), and Program Executive Office (PEOs). Provide support for the development of the NSWCDD Strategic Communications Plan. Plan, coordinate, and oversee the execution of meetings and special events to include distinguished visitors, historic milestones, anniversaries, and community events. Coordinate transportation, multimedia, and visual information support, amenities, accommodations, site surveys, and event design while following military traditions and protocol based OPNAVINST_1710.7A, Social Usage and Protocol Handbook. Provide publication editing and writing support to include edits for grammar, punctuation, spelling, clarity of sentences, format, and adherence to division guidelines. Prepare composition and illustration specifications, and front elements of Administrative Publications, Technical Reports, Technical Notes, and Miscellaneous Publications. Write, proofread, and edit script writing, news releases, briefings, transcription of oral interviews, and special publication projects. Provide editorial support to include creating, reviewing, editing and formatting publications, technical publications, reports, manuals, brochures, focus sheets, journals/magazines, journal articles, conference papers, white papers, programs, and awards. Advise on social media and web layouts, as well as the development of social media campaigns, and provide support for Armed Forces Public Information Management System (AFPIMS) web development and updates, updates for social media web sites, and manage content displayed on social media sites associated with NSWCDD once approved by the government. Manage various SharePoint sites. Support the development of content to be displayed on a network of up to twenty (20) Government-Furnished video screens and central Digital Signage associated with the NSWCDD Digital Signage network or current system in use. Use Network Enterprise Realtime Development Server (NERDS), Adobe Creative Suite 6 Production Premium, Microsoft Office Professional, AVS Video Converter, Snagit10 screen capture software and/or DoN Application and Database Management System (DADMS)-approved equivalences for digital signage content creation.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Proven ability to support employee communication programs and products, media relations programs, community relations, special events, and provide photography support.
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications field, public relations, or marketing and two (2) years of related experience OR six (6) years related experience in the field for public relations, public affairs, or journalism related with experience in research, conducting interviews, writing, editing, and obtaining release/approval for articles, feature stories, news releases, and statements, including electronic, web based, and hard copy material.
Must possess a verifiable Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
