Description |
The Mechanical Engineer will provide expertise in the development and fabrication of undersea warfare (USW) systems, equipment, and test fixtures:
• Capable of working independently and directing the work of other engineers
• Supports the development of new fire control systems, in-service engineering support for existing systems, and integration of those capabilities into maritime systems
• Performs duties across a wide range of mechanical design projects with an emphasis in prototype and production hardware development and systems engineering
• Utilizes engineering skills to analyze systems and subsystems for maritime and underwater applications in extreme naval environments
• Design and fabricate test fixtures needed to test new systems
• Support acquisition programs through technical review, design input, and technical advice to management
• Required to interact with personnel at all levels and in all engineering disciplines
• Participate in the development of short, mid-term, and long-term strategies to market NIWC Pacific products and services in the area of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance
Required Skills and Experience
• Five years of general systems engineering experience
• Five years specific experience in mechanical engineering
• Knowledge, skill and experience in mechanical engineering with emphasis in electronics packaging for naval environments; familiarity with ASME Y14.100, ASME 14.5, ASME 14.44, MIL-STD-130, MIL-HDBK-61A required
• Experience with mechanical shock and vibration design requirements and experience with electro-magnetic interference reduction design techniques desired. Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-167-1A, and MIL-S-901 greatly desired
• Knowledge, skill, and experience in engineering drawings and drawing creation using computer aided design software; specific experience with Solid Edge software greatly desired; experience with NIWC Pacific specific engineering drawing procedures desired
• Knowledge, skill and experience with fabrication methods for machined and sheet metal parts
• Knowledge, skill and experience in configuration management of electro-mechanical systems
• Experience in writing and implementing hardware and software technical, interface, performance, and design specifications
• Experience in project work-group participation in R&D projects
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Required Clearance
Must possess a verifiable Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
