The Embedded Linux Software Engineer participates in a team environment to design, implement, integrate, and test embedded software and systems for the United States Navy. This includes development of firmware and software for embedded systems while working closely with a focused, multi-disciplinary team of engineers. Test, debug, and modify custom software as part of a team working an overall systems software development and improvement process. The ideal candidate will be proactive in identifying and solving tough engineering challenges and focused on delivering high-performance, mission-critical products. The position requires the application of the principles and techniques of computer science and engineering. Success in this position requires an assertive, confident attitude and a commitment to working as a part of a team to meet critical delivery schedules.

Required Tasks:
• Developing software for real-time and near real-time embedded and distributed systems on Submarine and Surface Ship programs.
• Participating in all phases of SDLC including: high level design, detailed design, development, and integration and test.
• Collaborate with an integrated functional team to ensure adherence to requirements through operational deployment.
• Work with hardware and integration teams during setup and maintenance/debug efforts, when required.
• Experience in at least two of the following: Java, C, C++, Python, Bash, HTML5, JavaScript, Node.js and/or React.



• Strong experience at the Linux command line.
• Integrating software and hardware in complex systems.
• Strong communication skills with developers to explain integration/test results with developers.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Candidate must be U.S. citizen able to obtain a DoD Secret level security clearance.



• Strong experience at the Linux command line.
• Experience in Object Oriented Design using a UML tool.
• Experience with real-time operating system or near-RTOS concepts.
• Experience working in an Agile/Sprint environment.
• Experience with Git, Gerrit, or Gradle.
• Troubleshooting HW/OS/Drivers/Firmware/Network issues.

Additional Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in related discipline or equivalent experience and one to five years professional experience.
• Willingness to work 2nd or 3rd shift.
• Familiarity with Navy/Submarine operations is desirable.
• Willingness to work overtime.
• Proactive/self-starter.
• Task driven with ability to work independently.
• Team player that takes ownership and develops relationships with the team members which fosters team success.


• Bachelor’s degree in related discipline or equivalent experience 


• Candidate must be U.S. citizen able to obtain a DoD Secret level security clearance. Active Secret clearance preferred.
