With the leadership of the Manager and the Clinical Supervisor, the CNA performs assigned supportive work in connection with the delivery of patient care, including functional tasks and skills. Utilizes interactive processes which will exceed the expectation of patients, physicians, families or significant others, provides high quality, cost-effective care, and treatment. Demonstrates necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to unit specific competencies as appropriate to the age of the patients served, as delineated in the Center's Scope of Care. Knows, follows and actively supports the philosophy, mission, and Vision of Ingalls Hospital. Adheres to all hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care. Observes and adheres to all corporate compliance requirements and communicates issues as they arise with the appropriate parties as identified in the Corporate Compliance Plan. Works in partnership with other Patient Care Team members; pro-actively assists physicians and identifies and provides for individual patient and family needs.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience: Must have completed high school or equivalent; must have completed a medical terminology course.
Experience: Equivalent of 6 months full-time employment involving direct patient care in an acute, subacute, or nursing home setting. This experience must have occurred within two years. Must also be able to perform basic nursing care (ADL) procedures and general nursing care skills.
Physical/Position Demands: Physical constant dynamic standing/walking with occasional sitting. Involves occasional stooping and frequent reaching with bilateral upper extremities for making beds, assisting patients with ADL’s and monitoring vitals. It requires the ability to transfer patients as needed to chair, shower chair, cart. This can involve pushing/pulling in a forward bent posture. This duty should not exceed an individual force or weight of 50#, as the CA has access to help from co-workers and works as a team with an RN. Requires occasional carry of 19# commode or 45# chair from room to room and occasional carrying of linen bags weighing up to approximately 18# (per individual discretion). Requires push/pull force of up to 38# for moving beds and 20.5# force for push/pull of the standing scale. It may require lift and carry of CPM’s which weigh 42# and are stored from 18" height up to a 5.5' height and transported to patient rooms. It may also involve a push/pull force of 25# to maneuver the traction cart. Visual and hearing acuity required to read measurements, gauges and to hear patient breathing, blood pressure readings, heartbeat, etc.; accurate color vision required to interpret changes in patient urine, skin tone, etc.
