Description

Chemonics seeks a Civil Society and Community Health Team Leader for the anticipated follow-on to the USAID Maternal Child Survival Program (MCSP) based in Washington, DC. MCSP is the USAID Bureau for Global Health flagship maternal and child health program and is a multi-partner, global USAID cooperative agreement aimed at introducing and supporting high-impact health interventions in 25 priority countries with the goal of ending preventable maternal and child deaths within a generation. MCSP focuses on increasing coverage and utilization of high-quality reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health interventions at the household, community, and health facility levels. The Civil Society and Community Health Team Leader will be responsible for the overall strategic direction and management of mobilizing global and local civil society networks and relevant assets within and across sectors, building effective partnerships and capacity to advance key priorities globally and in country programs. S/he will be the primary point of contact for the USAID managers of the civil society child survival and health grants and will work collaboratively with other relevant USAID global and bilateral projects. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • In partnership with technical team leads, provide technical leadership to country programs to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations (including NGOs) and government counterparts in best practices for community strategies, systems strengthening, and policy
  • In partnership with technical team leads, provide country programs with overall technical oversight in health system strengthening activities focused on civil society and community health--including developing performance targets and monitoring plans
  • In partnership with other technical advisors, provide global leadership to improve community health approaches, and participate in key technical meetings and/or international conferences
  • Provide routine supportive supervision to country programs, including operationalizing continuous quality improvement processes
  • Identify issues and risks related to project implementation in a timely manner and appropriate program adjustments
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required
Qualifications:
 
  • A master’s degree or higher in public health, medicine, business administration, international development, or a related advanced degree
  • At least 10 years’ experience providing technical assistance and management support to civil society collaboration and capacity development
  • Demonstrated ability and leadership in nurturing diverse partnerships among global and local NGOs and with other actors across sectors
  • Track record of thought leadership to advance community health approaches in global and national policies and programs
  • Track record of progressive responsibility working at a senior manager level
  • Fluent English oral and written communication skills is required
  • Ability to interact professionally in a foreign language (especially French, Spanish, or Portuguese) is preferred, but not required
