Role Overview

University of Kansas Hillel is seeking a dynamic, engaging, and innovative professional who is a natural networker with an entrepreneurial spirit and strong leadership skills to join our staff as Assistant Director. The Assistant Director will be responsible for programing, engagement and leadership development for our student community.  We are seeking a leader with strong talent for coordinating and integrating the many moving parts of KU Hillel’s programs and projects to ensure the effective flow and function of our staff and student leaders. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with a talented staff and engaged student leaders to pursue KU Hillel's mission to connect Jewish students to each other and to their Judaism, to inspire and equip the next generation of Jewish leaders and to build a thriving Jewish community on campus.


Job Responsibilities

Senior Leadership:

  • Direct, coordinate, mentor and support the growth of our programming staff members
  • Manage data and communication within the organization to keep our team informed and cohesive at all times. This will include marketing, social media, programming and calendar
  • Work closely with the ED and SJE to develop leadership and Jewish educational curricula for learning fellowships


Student Life:

  • Maximize effectiveness in recruitment, engagement and partnerships
  • Work closely with student leaders and staff to envision, craft and support high-impact, innovative programming
  • Manage and implement ongoing, signature programs such as Bagels and Basketball, Hillel Formal, Holiday and Shabbat programming, Israel programming and more
  • Work in collaboration with the Executive Director to develop and manage key partnerships with the University and local organizations
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for students
  • Staff and attend events
  • Organize and lead KU’s Hillel’s Annual Leadership Mission with the Executive Director
  • Develop and implement opportunities to expand Hillel’s reach and visibility on campus through partnerships, relationship building, sponsorships and campus-wide initiatives


Marketing, Branding and Development:

  • Design and implement innovative, ambitious, and coordinated marketing strategies and promotional materials to maximize visibility for KU Hillel and its programs
  • Support the development director with strategic communications and special event marketing


Data Management & Analysis:

  • Oversee and maintain our data management system as part of the Measuring Excellence initiative of Hillel International. Help staff and students to make effective use of this data as a “data informed” organization
  • Oversee engagement and database tracking of students’ participation and engagement, including evaluating overall impact


What You Will Bring to the Job:

  • 3-5 years professional experience. Hillel experience strongly preferred, or experience in Jewish-,  experiential-, or higher-education.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree is a plus
  • Strong supervision skills and the ability to manage, motivate and empower others to achieve outcomes
  • Ability to infuse Jewish leadership content into program development
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
  • A passion for engaging college students and being a part of this transformative time in their lives
  • A drive to engage in ongoing personal and organizational self-evaluation with an openness to trying new ideas and learning from mistakes
  • Strong written and verbal skills with an ability to effectively and proactively communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including students, parents, staff, alumni and university partners
  • Knowledge of design platforms within the Adobe suite including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere Pro is a plus
