Hours: The pharmacy is open 24 hours a day.  The Director will typically work weekday business hours but may be required to work evenings and weekends as needed and rotates in the pharmacy administrative on call program.

Description: As a Comprehensive Pharmacy Services (CPS) Director of Pharmacy at the CAMC General Hospital, you will oversee all pharmacy operations including planning, organizing, controlling, and supervising activities, according to hospital policies, standards of practice of the profession, and state and federal laws. You will recommend innovations in the practice and function of the pharmacy to hospital administration and carry out mutually agreed upon programs.

Facility: Located in the scenic and historic city of Charleston, Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) is West Virginia’s largest and most advanced healthcare center. A non-profit, 968-bed regional referral and academic medical center, CAMC includes four campuses: General Hospital, Memorial Hospital, Women and Children’s Hospital, and Teays Valley Hospital. CAMC is fully accredited by DNV-GL and recently received the 2015 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the 2014 and 2015 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence from Healthgrades five years in a row (2014-18) CAMC is committed to quality healthcare for the residents of West Virginia and annually grants over $100 million in uncompensated care and $35 million in graduate medical education support. CAMC General Hospital is comprised of 268 licensed beds and is home to CAMC’s Level I Trauma Center and the only kidney transplant center in WV.

Pharmacy: CAMC’s inpatient pharmacies are open 24 hours a day (except Teays Valley) and are fully automated. The health system also includes an outpatient pharmacies, specialty pharmacy, and an IV compounding preparation facility. The pharmacy department is affiliated with West Virginia University and the University of Charleston Schools of Pharmacy. The pharmacy department has a robust residency program consisting of both PGY1 and PGY2 positions. The Pharmacy is managed by Comprehensive Pharmacy Services. The Director of Pharmacy is an employee of CPS and reports to the Health System Director of Pharmacy for the system. All other employees are employees of the hosptal.

Required Qualifications:

  • Pharmacy degree (BS or PharmD)
  • Current West Virginia pharmacist license in good standing or ability to obtain licensure
  • 3+ years previous hospital pharmacy management experience in a 200+ bed hospital preferred
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond to client concerns
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other members of CPS and hospital and pharmacy staff
