The attorney in this role shall assist the legal department of Jaguar Land Rover North America by advising the US and Canada businesses regarding legal risks in the areas of product liability, product quality, and safety, and handling related litigation, as well as consumer warranty litigation and advising the Customer Service department on best practices regarding consumer warranty and consumer protection laws.  The attorney shall advise the company regarding best practices, policies, and processes relating to prevention of risk in the foregoing areas.  The role may also require other ad hoc tasks such as coordinating insurance-related issues, drafting and reviewing various forms of agreements and releases (e.g., supplier agreements, confidentiality agreements, settlement agreements, customer authorization forms, etc.), and handling other needs of the legal department in other areas of law that may arise.  This attorney shall continuously develop and maintain the legal expertise needed to perform the role. 

The successful candidate must have significant experience in high stakes and high-volume litigation and in negotiation and mediation skills and the ability to juggle different legal areas and projects and to prioritize tasks, while planning and accomplishing objectives in a timely manner.  He/She must remain flexible to respond to the changing requirements of the business and must perform tasks in a hands-on manner with excellent judgment on getting value from outside counsel.  He/She must also have the strategic judgment to resolve complex issues efficiently and effectively, as well as demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail and verbal and writing skills and be skilled at explaining legal concepts to non-attorneys in an international context in a clear and concise manner.  In addition, the successful candidate must have the interest, passion, and energy for gaining understanding of the automotive business, the various functions within the company, the retailer network, customers and the company’s products and services.  This role shall report to the General Counsel for North America. 

Main Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide daily legal services to help coordinate product liability, product defect issues, safety regulatory issues and consumer warranty litigation issues faced by the business in US and Canada , including managing litigation, coordinating investigations into potential disputes

  • Present to the business on best practices and provide training to business colleagues in US and UK as needed. Prepare agreements and releases for customers as needed, and assist on insurance inquiries, etc.

  • Assist as needed on other areas of law and ad hoc tasks needed by the Legal Department.

 

Key Criteria

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree and a J.D. degree from an accredited law school

  • Must be a member of the Bar in a U.S. state and be in good standing

  • 7+ years relevant experience

  • Automotive Experience preferred

  • Commercial contract drafting and corporate governance experience

  • Prior product liability experience

  • Prior in-house legal experience

  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
