Chief Social Impact Officer

Position Summary

The Chief Social Impact Officer (CSIO) plays a vital role in helping Novogradac assess, improve and expand the Firm’s positive social and environmental impacts.  This position advises the Firm’s Executive Committee on ways to deploy the Firm’s labor and capital, consistent with the Firm’s commitment to continuous improvement, to promote positive change within the Firm, within the professions in which the Firm works, and within the communities the Firm serves. With the Firm’s strategic objectives in mind, this position will assess the Firm’s current operations to help identify and recommend opportunities to increase current, near term and future social and environmental impacts. This position will measure progress on initiatives and produce an annual impact report. The CSIO will work to develop employee awareness of social impact issues and will build and expand the Company’s community impact initiatives. This position will regularly collaborate with leadership across Firm departments, and will report directly to a member of the Executive Committee.

The firm has one available position in either Long Beach, CA, Portland, OR, Atlanta, GA, Cleveland, OH, Dover, OH, or Austin, TX.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, assess and improve Novogradac’s social and environmental impact initiatives.
  • Monitor, track, and analyze effectiveness of initiatives, leading to an annual company report.
  • Partner with Recruiting department to track and analyze effectiveness of current practices. Implement initiatives to further the Firm’s diversity goals.
  • Partner with Human Resources on initiatives to further diversity in retention and promotion of employees.
  • Partner with the Training department to develop and present internal training on designated topics to advance employee understanding of social issues/inherent bias and promote personal and professional development.
  • Partner with the Marketing department to expand topics relating to social and environmental impact included in conferences, webinars, publications, podcasts, and other appropriate avenues. Work to assure diversity of participants, speakers and sponsors at Novogradac events.
  • Grow community awareness and drive social impact in the markets we serve by developing short and long term plans to further our community volunteer activities.
  • Analyze the Firm’s annual EEO data to identify opportunities to increase diversity of employee base, and assess year over year improvements in diversity of employees.
  • Assess and recommend ways for the Firm to improve its environmental impact, with regard to energy consumption, carbon footprint, recycling, waste reduction, and other areas as identified.
  • Develop effective relationships with key clients whose initiatives align with Novogradac’s in order to collaborate, share ideas, and partner on events and activities.
  • Advise the Novogradac Community Development Foundation on investment and/or donation needs and opportunities within the communities Novogradac clients serve. Analyze and track impact of investments.
  • Participate in other projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to develop rapport across all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully implementing multi-year strategic plans to address complex social issues
  • Experience in developing learning systems and training courses, as well as effective presentation skills
  • Effective project management skills, and ability to manage shifting priorities
  • Strong strategic planning, learning and evaluation, with operations and a strong business acumen
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to assess data and prepare effective reports for internal and public audiences
  • Solid organizational and follow-through skills, performing work accurately with strong attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills, including solid skill in the Microsoft Office suite
  • Must be able to occasionally travel as needed to complete job duties

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred with emphasis on Public Administration, Diversity and Inclusion or similar, plus 5-8 years of related experience, including experience helping companies successfully bring about social change, and/or appropriate balance of education and work experience.
