Job Description

Brown Advisory, a rapidly growing investment management firm, is currently seeking a Consultant Relations sales person to add to our Institutional Sales team. This individual will be responsible for managing institutional client relationships with a goal of growing assets within the West Coast of the United States of the US Institutional Sales team.

The primary responsibility as a member of the Consultant Relations team is to develop new relationships with consultants as well as retain existing clients. Through focused client segmentation and collaboration with the US Direct Institutional team this individual will position Brown Advisory investment strategies with key clients and prospects.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining a consistent level of communication and interaction with prioritized consultants and key prospects
  • Increase AUM and revenue within channel through strong prospecting and sales process
  • Delivering a consistent and high level of service to the firm’s clients
  • Serving as an advocate for both the client and the firm
  • Remaining apprised of material changes/events with clients and ensuring the dissemination of that information to all pertinent parties within Brown Advisory
  • Maintaining a deep and current knowledge of the firm’s business activities and investment strategies in order to efficiently address client needs and cross-selling opportunities
  • Documenting meaningful client and prospect interactions in CRM (Salesforce)
  • Continuously expanding familiarity with industry and market developments that impact clients by attending client-sponsored events and industry conferences
  • Addressing client issues and seeking ways to creatively enhance the client experience
  • Harnessing the firm’s intellectual capital in ways that are strategically meaningful to clients
  • Initiating regular and meaningful communications with clients to build strong relationships and uncover business development opportunities
  • Regularly arranging, conducting and leading client portfolio reviews, involving strategy PMs, specialist or analysts when appropriate Collaborating with internal partners within the team and in, the marketing and investment teams:
  • To ensure the delivery of consistent messaging related to investments and firm developments
  • To provide relevant background information on client relationships that will be important for client review meetings and new business presentations
  • Working with internal partners in Legal & Compliance and Institutional Operations & Administration for client onboarding & ad- hoc requests

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree or CFA preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of direct institutional asset management sales experience
  • Experience in consultant relations
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial self- starter
  • Investment management industry experience working with institutional clients
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
  • Proficient in Client Relationship Management (CRM) documentation
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) as well as attention to detail
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • West Coast location (San Francisco or Los Angeles preferred)
