SUMMARY:

The CREF Associate manages business activities and operational functions for the Commercial/Multifamily Group.  Exercises independent judgment overseeing and executing on meetings management, the Council/Committee appointment processes, and programming and engagement for the mPact member demographic. Develops communications to and manages the governance flow of the Commercial/Multifamily Board of Governors (COMBOG) and its Councils/Committees.  The candidate is also responsible for managing and executing workflow priorities for the Group, ensuring execution of the CREF Group’s executive roundtables, governance entities and major CREF conferences/meetings.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Executes all elements of the meetings management of COMBOG and Executive Roundtables including contract requirements and on-site management.  Ensures the CREF Group’s execution of deliverables for the CREF Convention and Expo, Commercial/Multifamily Servicing & Tech Conference, Executive Roundtables, and COMBOG meetings.  
  • Interfaces directly with members of COMBOG, its Nominating Committee and other member leadership on governance protocols for MBA’s CREF membership.  
  • Develops and writes briefing materials in anticipation of upcoming meetings/conferences or conference calls. Drafts COMBOG meeting minutes.  Prepares deliverables and matrices to ensure the business of COMBOG. Manages information flow to and about COMBOG members and the COMBOG as a governance entity.  Ensures antitrust and confidentiality guidelines are provided.  
  • Manages the overall member engagement meeting agenda for the CREF department.  Develops briefing materials and communications for COMBOG, COMBOG Nominating Committee, COMBOG Advisory Committee and Executive Roundtables.  Maintains the governance database of COMBOG members’ terms, as well as the governance database for Council leadership and COMBOG, including bylaw changes and board terms. 
  • Directs the annual process, working with Council staff representatives, for review and selection of the Councils’ leadership.  Drafts ballots, resolutions, and other governance vehicles for the appropriate governance body, including COMBOG and the COMBOG Nominating Committee.  Ensures process meets the requirements of the Bylaws.
  • Manages the mPact (Young Professionals) initiative for CREF.  Advises and interfaces with the mPact Advisory Committee.  Develops programming for mPact, including regional meetings and events at signature CREF Conferences.  Contributes to programming and agenda for various other CREF member engagement activities. 
  • Manages the Department’s annual budget.  Prepares budget reports, proactively reviews monthly financials, works with CREF staff to ensure expenditures are within budget requirements; identifies and addresses potential variances.  Serves as liaison to Finance Department.
  • Produces and prepares materials that reflect Commercial/Multifamily initiatives, policy priorities, achievements and scorecards. Ensures they are appropriately marketed working with the Marketing/Communications Department. Serves as CREF Group’s liaison to IT and other departments on technology matters.   
  • Manages CREF Group’s web content, drafting and organizing content and updates, working with CREF and other MBA staff.   Manages CREF member information data integrity and updates. 
  • Writes and edits inter-departmental correspondence.  Ensures project coordination and workflow, monitoring deadlines to ensure projects are completed accurately and in a timely manner.  
  • Researches and drafts an industry calendar of events of other trade groups to monitor overall industry activities.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Undergraduate degree required, in addition to two or more years of progressively responsible operational oversight experience. Exercises independent judgment and professionalism at all times, including in interfacing with members.  Excellent organizational, writing, and interpersonal skills a must.  Strong attention to detail, a proactive and strategic mindset on the priorities of the CMF Group, and a focus on execution are required.  Strong knowledge base of e-based technology, including Microsoft Outlook and other technology tools to increase efficiency preferred.  Strong knowledge of personal computers, membership-related software (or equivalent), and superb communications.  Ability to thrive well under pressure, handle multiple projects simultaneously and manage priorities a requirement, and an ability to be poised and professional in working with senior executives.  Experience in association relations or working with a board, CEOs or senior executives, and/or committee structure a plus.
