SUMMARY:

The Policy and Program Specialist’s key responsibilities will be to analyze and research affordable housing issues, draft policy and program documents, and provide general project support to the Senior Vice President, Affordable Housing Initiatives.  Incumbent will assist in the preparation of general briefing materials.  Incumbent will conduct outreach to key internal and external stakeholders and will assist with staff support for MBA’s affordable housing  advisory councils on rental housing and home ownership.  Incumbent will assist with strategic planning for key affordable housing efforts.  Incumbent will also undertake special projects on an ad hoc basis, as well as assist with certain logistical and administrative duties. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyzes and summarizes key affordable housing issues.
  • Draft policy and program documents, to include agendas, meeting summaries, and talking points.
  • Monitors policy developments related to affordable housing.
  • Conducts outreach to internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on key priorities.
  • Supports the work of MBA’s Advisory Councils on Affordable Rental Housing and Affordable Homeownership.
  • Works with MBA staff to update MBA’s Affordable Housing Policy Agenda.
  • Monitors the affordable housing policy and business environment via coordinated outreach to key MBA members and stakeholders in the affordable housing ecosystem.
  • Provides support to the Project Coordinator regarding technical aspects of key MBA affordable housing initiatives, including help with identifying speakers, topics, and refining presentations to match program goals.
  • Coordinates and follows-up with external stakeholders on the execution of MBA initiatives on affordable rental and homeownership.  Ensures that key milestones and metrics are met. 
  • Provides content and updates information on MBA’s Convergence (AHI) web page, including, but not limited to, policy and industry updates as well as content on best practices , “tool kits,” and standards in the affordable housing space.

Other duties as assigned.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist staff in the preparation for conferences/briefings.         
  • Respond to routine inquiries regarding information on policy issues.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Highly organized and detail oriented.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deal with diverse internal and external stakeholders. Policy analysis and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work with others to design and implement action plans around specific market challenges.  Strong familiarity with issues related to affordable housing.  Working knowledge of the public policy process.  At least three years of related work experience.  A network of contacts relevant to affordable housing is highly desirable.  Trade association experience a plus.  College degree required.  Advanced degree desired.
