Mid-Level Distribution Designer

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Mid-Level Distribution Designer for the Power Delivery Distribution Department in our San Antonio, Texas office.

Roles and Responsibilities

The qualified candidate should have exposure to utility standards, the ability to use design software packages, and general construction knowledge and aptitude. The ideal candidate will have been trained to perform Oncor, CenterPoint, Austin Energy, or Texas Co-op design and be fluent with all design processes and software. The candidate should be able to work in design teams as well as be self-motivated to perform assigned tasks. 

Required Education/Experience

  • Three (3) + years of experience in the design, operation, or maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines (4 kV through 35 kV)
  • Prior utility design experience or distribution line work
  • Familiarity with distribution design software, the National Electric Safety Code, and utility best practices
  • Experience preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, estimating costs, and customer advocacy such as, acquiring easements
  • Strong command of the English language and possess good written and oral communications skills
  • Must be able to successfully pass client's background screening process
  • A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Desired Education/Experience

  • A two-year technical certificate/degree or equivalent experience
  • Exposure to utility Geographical Information Systems (GIS) such as GE Smallworld, ArcFM, DDS, DM, etc.
  • AutoCAD and MicroStation experience
  • The ability to lead and direct a team of engineers, designers, and drafters
  • Some travel should be expected
