On Air / Community Affairs Host on WHHH

 

Mandate: To competently* and professionally* develop and manage community outreach and external communication while staying aligned with the overall Company strategic direction, philosophies and goals. The Host is responsible for compelling content that could lead to solutions that directly affect Indianapolis..

Objectives (by Responsibility)

Audio Program Elements

  • Facilitate pre-show and post-show planning meetings.
  • Liaison with the Program Director to develop and implement short and long-term strategies.
  • Book appropriate guests on the show and inform Program Director.
  • Center show on the community and local affairs.   

 Preparation

  • To compile and direct production of all on-air material and resources on a daily basis. This includes:
  • When possible, daily pre-show scan of newspaper.
  • Production of daily "run-sheet" programming guide for all participants.
  • Be well informed about social events, community events, local public figures and celebrities within the format.
  • Research guests that fit weekly topic..
  • Talk about Content that is local and topical.

  Assignment and Monitor

  • Appropriateness of subject matter.
  • Relevance to target audience.
  • Proper delivery technique.
  • Maintenance of station standards as defined by Program Director.
  • Facilitate daily post-show review meetings to assess performance of all programming elements.
  • Regular consultation with Program Director for feedback on all programming elements. 

Liaison with the community

  • Assist the Stations with maintaining positive relationships with community and advocacy groups.
  • Represent the Stations when attending relevant industry and community related events.
  • Build effective relationships with community leaders.
  • Knowledge of the community
  • Create calendar of community events and show dates.

Professional Development

  • To attend all relevant skill building workshops as requested.
  • To stay current with all relevant industry information as it applies to the overall job responsibility.
  • To drive your own Performance Appraisal every 12 months.

 Residency

  • Must reside in the Indianapolis, Indiana metropolitan area and have been a resident for at least five years.
  • Knowledge of the area’s social, political and economic issues.

Reasoning Ability

Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variable in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
