Laboratory Technician II

Refrigerator Quality & Development

Responsibilities

  • Verify proper appliance/component operation; manage progress of device under test throughout test plans and set-up of test stations including utilities, test units, equipment, Data Acquisition programs, etc.
  • Report on and evaluate any deviations in the performance of tested devices as compared to a standard. Provide and manage detailed results.
  • Troubleshoot deviations to determine root cause. Provide and manage detailed results.
  • Document and maintain detailed test reports (custom written reports beyond standard fill-in forms) including discussion of test protocol, results, graphs, and analysis.
  • Perform special tasks and projects as required, which are related to operation, maintenance, and upkeep of Engineering Lab. This would also include but not be limited to design validation testing on prototypes, failure analysis, and competitive testing.
  • Organize and manage the logistics for test units and components to keep the test plan on schedule.
  • Coordinate and maintain 5S processes in assigned areas.
  • Accurately catalog and record test activities and results from test units and components.
  • Generate, maintain, and utilize defined test methods and procedures for conducting test.
  • Train test operator(s) when necessary.
  • Build and maintain new test fixtures and equipment.
  • Maintain, use, and troubleshoot test equipment running Data Acquisition, Microcontrollers, and pneumatic devices
  • Support Field Test program (on site visits, fault finding, upgrades etc.)
  • Train others in the skills needed to be a Lab Technician
  • Report to manager on Lab progress and issues. Provide information for planning and budgets.
  • Contributes to ISO Documentation.
  • Appliances are large and need to be moved before, during and after test.
  • Test chambers can range from 50 to 110°F and tests may require to be in that environment for short periods of time
  • Work with high voltage (240V) and combustible refrigerants
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Your Profile

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Forklift certified
  • Sound basic knowledge of refrigeration and electricity. Reading and understanding of technical data (sketches, manuals, minimal troubleshooting, etc.)
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to layout and build test cabinets and fixtures.
  • Excellent know-how and certification for regulatory requirements. (UL/CSA)
  • Ability to create test procedures and schedules.
  • Willing to fabricate parts by hand and obtain required materials from outside sources.
  • Clear written and verbal communication in English.
  • Self-motivated, organized, problem solver.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • EPA Section 608, Universal Certification (Core, Type 1, Type 2, Type 3) preferred

  • Computer literate with experience in MS Office applications required.
  • Experience with Lab View, Visual Basic, C++ helpful.
  • Setup and use of lab tools (multi-meters, temperature probes, data loggers, etc.)
  • Three to seven (3-7) years’ prior lab experience.
  • Any of the above requirements/qualifications may be waived for the successful candidate.
