Title:  Chief Financial Officer

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer/President


As a key member of the Executive Management team, the Chief Financial Officer will report to the President and CEO and have direct interaction with the Board of Directors. The CFO will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities of the company and will ensure all proper controls and systems are in place–including enough capital and financial information–for the company to operate soundly and compliantly. This will include direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, job costing, government bid analysis, deal analysis and negotiations, risk management, compliance programs and private and institutional financing. Position is located in Juneau, Alaska.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Ensure credibility of Finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts.
  • Provide management and the Goldbelt Board timely and understandable monthly financial statements and metrics for over a dozen operating companies.
  • Ensure the Herndon Service Center provides a premier customer service for all companies it serves.
  • Ensure the Juneau accounting office provides a premier customer service for companies it serves.
  • Evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/ strategies and regulatory action.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs and provide practical business solutions.
  • Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities.
  • Work with the board’s budget and audit committee in the preparation of the annual budget and through the audit process.
  • Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP, the FAR, DCAA and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.

  • Knowledge of corporate governance
  • Knowledge of GAAP, FAR, DCAA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and relevant tax laws.
  • Strong financial and accounting background, including an understanding of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management and general finance and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of complex accounting systems, specifically Deltek CostPoint
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and requirements
  • Knowledge of Small Business Administration (SBA) 8(a) program
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to manage all levels of staff and staff at remote locations (staff is currently in Juneau, Alaska; Herndon, Virginia; Newport News, Virginia)
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation

This position requires 25% travel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics
  • Ten (10) years’ of progressively responsible experience in finance industry and managing a team
  • Previous CFO or Controller experience
  • Ability to successfully pass a background and credit check
  • Ability to obtain and maintain clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

  • MBA Degree
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Extensive Federal Government Contracting experience
  • Experience in Alaska Native Corporation 8(a) Government Contracting
  • Experience in Deltek CostPoint system
  • Experience managing a service center
  • Experience or understanding of Alaska Native Corporation and Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act
