Job Announcement

Position: SPECIAL PROJECTS MANAGER

Salary Range: $68,323 - $88,819

 

Under the direction of the Director of Community Development, or his/her designee, the Special Projects Manager will lead special projects, such as the development of the Consolidated Plan, annual updates and reports; community engagement strategies; data collection and maintenance of an external program dashboard; provide support for the Nashville Promise Zone; and assist with other Community Development events and initiatives.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES:

Bachelor degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Public Policy or a related area and two (2) years of experience in a managerial or leadership role in community development or a combination of education level and experience. A Master’s degree with experience working with HUD community development programs is preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists the Director of Community Development or his/her designee with the planning, development and promotion of activities related to HUD Community Planning and Development (CPD) programs.

  • Manage special projects, such as the development of the Consolidated Plan, annual updates, including: developing an understanding of Consolidated Plan requirements and analyzing HUD provided and local data.

  • Plans and facilitates community meetings, public hearings, grantee trainings and special events involving CPD programs.

  • Develops and executes Department’s communication, marketing and outreach strategies.

  • Implements effective community engagement initiatives to increase public input through technology and social media platforms.

  • Maintains internal and public dashboards to showcase accomplishments of Community Development programs.

  • Provide support for the Nashville Promise Zone by serving as a liaison between MDHA, community stakeholders and the Mayor’s office.

  • Assists in the revision of CPD program policies and procedures based upon identified best practices.

  • Writes, proofreads and/or edits Departmental publications and proposals.

  • Attends and participates in community and civic forums when assigned to do so.

  • Perform special projects, as assigned.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, nonprofit organizations, neighborhood groups, public officials, developers, and others involved with affordable housing and community development;

  • ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and with team members.

  • Knowledge of concepts and programs relevant to the affordable housing and community development sector.

  • Proficient skill in using an Internet browser and Microsoft Office; experience in analyzing Census data, preparing maps, and writing reports.

  • Adept at balancing multiple, complex tasks and working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to perform work with or without an accommodation that requires sitting, standing, and walking, dexterity of hands and clarity of vision, speech and hearing and powers of observation; other physical duties as required.
